Venezuelan plot to overthrow Betancourt regime exposed

Caracas reports a right wing plot to topple the Betancourt government led by two former colonels. One commanded the National Guard under Perez Jiminez. the other was Jiminez’s personal pilot. They aimed to form a military junta led by ex general Jesus Castro Leon, jailed for a previous revolt. Supposed arms came from Dominican dictator Trujillo, assassinated last month. Both colonels are under arrest.

Swedish Minister Involved In Forrest Road Smash

A chauffeured legation sedan carrying Swedish Minister Nils-Eric Ekbald collided with another car at the corner of Arthur and Empire Circuits in Forrest on Saturday morning. No injuries occurred though both vehicles were heavily damaged. Ekbald and his driver Gustav Eriksson spoke with police while the other driver was identified as Walter Herbert Laddison of Northcote Crescent Deakin.

An Ansell ANA Viscount airliner with 50 passengers from Sydney burst all four undercarriage tyres on landing at Eagle Farm airport in Brisbane. The aircraft suffered no damage to the TL and no injuries were reported.

Liner Seizes Chance Return Of ACT Boy In Custody Case

Police launched from Thursday Island in a pilot launch to fetch a German boy unnamed in Canberra custody proceedings from the liner Fairsea. The 14 month old child and his father Klaus Steubling had sailed from Brisbane after a Canberra Supreme Court order, with the mother Krister Steubling awaiting news. The ship, six miles off the island, did not stop at another Australian port. The boy was born in Australia and a divorce case in Melbourne was noted.

Dangerous Bomb Found By Road In Windale Incident

Aerial bomb with firing head rested on the pin found on a highway. Police halted traffic while explosion crew and RAAF units from Williamstown Base detonated the device after two hours. The bomb was lethal within 30 feet and could have injured nearby motorists.
