Eighteen Nationalities Join Australia in Mass Naturalisation
At Albert Hall the largest naturalisation ceremony in the ACT saw 108 migrants sworn in as Australian citizens. Notables included Lorin Lindley Hawes, former American lecturer in chemistry at the Australian National University, and Milnoj Peska, chief at Government House Canberra. Hawes cited leaving militarism in the United States. Peska had been in Australia 11 years and Canberra chief for three. Certificate presentations were led by Advisory Council chair W. S. Byrne, with MP J. R. Fraser offering congratulations.
