Interior to install high speed 1620 computer
The Department of the Interior will install a transistorised small scale computer in December. The system, named 1620, will be used for survey calculations across the Commonwealth and by the Forestry and Timber Bureau for growth and timber data analysis, and by the Accounts Section for housing loan interest and repayment tables. The department will rent the computer from an Australian firm, making it the first government department to use such technology.
