Aftonbladet reports in Stockholm that Leningrad faces severe hunger riots as crowds storm pro vision stores and plunder exports. Troops refused to fire. Cheekos engaged with bayonet charges causing many deaths and injuries. Cheekos remain the sole force cited by Soviet authorities.
Andrew Peck, 43, manager of Banarran Station in Dubbo, drowned crossing the flooded Macquarie River in a flat bottom canoe to help a sick cow. The canoe overturned about ten feet from shore. Peck, a strong swimmer, disappeared after grabbing a snag as his companions, both non swimmers, failed to rescue him.
Floodwaters of the Murrumbidgee burst banks at Gundagal and spread over low-lying areas to South Gundagal. By Friday midnight the mood waters receded but left Coolav James Roddy, an elderly resident, stranded in mud and he died after admission to Gunded Hospital.
In London the Parliamentary Labour Party met to review the Frugal Commission report on unemployment benefits.
