Divers Inspect Kaitawa Wreck Off New Zealand Coast
New Zealand Navy divers descended to inspect the wreck of the collier Kaitawa, lost in a storm over two weeks earlier off North New Zealand. Using an underwater television center, divers reported the ship lying upright in about 22 fathoms of water, with difficult rip tides and poor visibility complicating the operation. Two 26 minute dives were conducted, with plans to resume as conditions allow.
