Tuscaloosa Alabama Sunday AAP reports a looming showdown between the U S Government and Alabama state authorities over integration. Governor George Wallace telegrammed President Kennedy saying he will summon 500 National Guardsmen for standby duty in Tuscaloosa to fulfill a pledge to preserve peace.
Reports describe security measures around the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa as federal authorities push to integrate the campus this week. Protests and threats are reported in Birmingham and Clarksdale while President Kennedy rallies support for civil rights and a federal safety response is noted in Jackson and Beverly Hills.

A man identified as Donald Beall, 371 WB Foveaux Street, Ainslie, died at about 8 50 am yesterday after falling 30 feet from a ladder at his home. Another accident nearby saw a mother and her 7 year old daughter admitted to hospital after a car crash into a gate post about 14 miles from Canberra. The driver was Paul Tapf of 59 Woodfield Tidines, Caringbah. In a separate incident a Sydney woman died instantly in a crash near Cooma when a car skidded and overturned on the Munro Highway 19 miles from Cooma at 1 320 pm. The deceased was Elsie Sails, 19, of Haberitel, a passenger. Two Northbridge women were admitted to Cooma District Hospital following a similar accident in the area. The victims were Miss Varian Christiansen, 22, and Miss Sandra Powers, 22.
Australian Labour Party delegates at the annual State convention fixed a retirement rule affecting three veteran MPs. Mr Makin 74 Mr Thompson 76 and Mr Tred Walsh 73 would be ineligible for preselection if over the required ages at the end of the current parliamentary term.
