Blind vice-president with sense of direction in 1969 Jaycees talk
The Canberra Jaycees invited Graham Downie secretary of the Guide Dogs for the Blind Association ACT as guest speaker and recruited a new member. Independent Jaycees chapters share aims and methods in ACT
The three ACT chapters Canberra Belconnen and Woden show keen competition and independent character while contributing to regional and international Jaycees work. Each chapter runs five to six executives and several commissioners with common commissions such as extension membership and reader development. Woden proudly cites its Jaycette women group as the first ACT chapter to form a women’s unit, while Belconnen emphasizes recruitment and a solid training program. Belconnen and Canberra strive for meeting rigor and debate quality with chairmanship drills and an annual breakfast series. The Woden Jaycees expect to recruit strong wives and prepare for a busy year as turnover and part time studies stress limits.

Mrs Laurel Greenhalgh, joined the Fay Jaycettes in September and was elected president in November, explaining that she and her husband are deeply involved in organizations. The Woden Jaycettes, the sole Jaycees wives group in Canberra with about 15 members, raise funds for Aboriginal children’s home at Nowra and plan to back the 1973 national convention.
