Canberra chef Graeme Mason, 30, rescued a man overcome by smoke and his 19 month old son from a blazing caravan at Hall. The caravan, valued at 12,000, was destroyed. The father, Ray mond Mark Halliday, a Caltex service-station manager, was admitted to hospital with facial burns and smoke effects. his wife Pamela and son Jason were treated and discharged. Mason later helped the Halliday family with clothing and support. Local MPs pledged urgent action to reopen the fire station after staffing disputes.
