Australia were 4/124 after Harvey and O Neill departed in controversial fashion. Harvey was out in the gully after a prior display of pressure. O Neill steadied at 11 and was dismissed hit wicket amid a disputed call. Lawry stood tall for Australia with 64 as Bertram Berch, the captain, remained tight lipped.
The New York Herald-Tribune reports President Kennedy plans a 52 nation World War II Allied conference to draft a German Peace Treaty based on self determination. The plan aims to beat Krushchev to his own idea by calling the conference first.
