Dozens of youngsters arrived at Coney Island Hospital in Brooklyn from a day camp with food poisoning. Authorities say the illness likely originated from an egg salad, with more than 100 children treated.
Armistice ends three years and 38 days of war with truce signed at 11 a m. Seoul reports frontline withdrawal to begin within three days. India to lead about 4000 troops for prisoners of war, and UN General Assembly to convene August 17. President Rhee vows no disruption to the armistice amid political talks.
The armistice signing near the 38th parallel was conducted with North Korea and China presenting a joint front while South Korea and its allies held firm. Leaders and generals spoke of a peaceful withdrawal and pledged UN defense, with caution urged against demonstrations and bellicose actions.
