Drought areas declared in New South Wales
NSW Acting Minister for Agriculture Mr Freudenstein announced drought declarations for Braidwood and Eden, lifting totals to 23. Fourteen more areas including Albury Armidale Cobar Corowa Dubbo Goulburn Glen Innes Inverell Jerilderie Narrabri Pilliga Tamworth Tenterfield and Urana were added after the initial seven.

Government and mining industry representatives will out number by four to two conservation interests on the executive committee directing an environment fact finding study in the Alligator River region. Minister for the Interior Hunt announced the members in Canberra. The committee will meet first in Sydney on July with Alan O'Brien chairing.

Kings Cross RSL Club loses licence renewal ruling
The Metropolitan Licensing Court refused to renew the Kings Cross RSL Club registration. Licensing Magistrate J G Reidy will give reasons later. Secretary Harry Lees appealed. Senior Army officers receive promotions and retirements
The Army announces changes in senior appointments. Major-General T F Cape, chief of material at Army Headquarters Canberra and Military Board member, will retire in August. Brigadier Simkin becomes Australian Army representative and military attaché in Washington early next year. Lieutenant-Colonel R A Grey is promoted to colonel and named colonel plans at Army Headquarters Canberra. Lieutenant-Colonel R J Gardner completes Joint Services Staff College and becomes director of artillery.
