Fraser urges lifting tax on foodstuffs in TV appeal
In a weekly broadcast Mr Fraser attacks the 12 percent special sales tax on many common foods. He urges Treasurer Holt to remove the levy, arguing it would boost the home market and spending power of housewives while aiding trade and manufacturing. He notes 80,000 unemployed and a buoyant Commonwealth budget. The Eden-Monaro area relies on dairy and fruit markets.
