Prime Minister Mr Macmillan urged that any summit between Western and Soviet leaders be preceded by agreement on procedure and agenda. He spoke at a Parliamentary dinner, warning that without a clear plan the talks could raise hope then disappoint, and pressed for practical diplomacy to reduce tensions.
UK Prime Minister Mr. Macmillan outlined NATO talks and the Bermuda conference with President Eisenhower in a two hour briefing to Australian senior ministers. He explained Britain’s stance on summit talks with Soviet Russia and the readings were described as enlightening and valuable to both sides. Australian ministers expressed complete accord with the British view on summit details.
Aipalle resident Anthony Warment was thrown into a windscreen on Mort Street Braddon suffering eye injuries. Blomfield, a car passenger, rode in a vehicle that crashed with two parked cars near Mort and Cooyong Streets. Police report the driver swerved to avoid a vehicle from Civic Centre. Blomfield was taken to Community Hospital by Canberra Ambulance. A young man faced charges for driving under the influence of liquor.
Mr. Overall, 44, married with three children, was named Canberra Commissioner for seven years to lead future planning and construction. Based in Melbourne, he will appoint two Associate Commissioners and set up the Commission machinery. He brings extensive overseas experience, wartime service, and multiple architectural honors and roles.
