Coramba Steamer Loss Found Due To Storm Inquiries

The Court of Marine Inquiry found the steamer Coramba lost in a November storm. It held the vessel was near worthy and fully equipped with prescribed life saving apparatus and carried sufficient fuel. The court recommended lifebelts on all vessels and appointing local fishermen to inspect ship lead lines at all points.

Railway Deal Japan and Russia Finalized in Tokyo

Negotiations lasting 19 months on the transfer of the Chinese Eastern Railway from Russia to Japan concluded at ten this morning. The transfer takes effect next month with Britain expected to benefit from equipment purchases. Price agreed at 1 720 000 000 yen.

Flood tragedy at Camooweal claims Tommie amid river rescue

In Queensland a heavy rainstorm caused the Georgina River to rise rapidly isolating residents. Tommie, an aborigine, died during a brave effort to save old age pensioner Patrick McNamara who was stranded on a tree. McNamara survived after a rescue as floodwaters receded.

Bruce questioned over meat export restriction in Australian Assembly

In Sydney on Tuesday Mr Davidson of the Labour party accused High Commissioner Mr Brice of being linked to a proposed two month meat export restriction starting January 1 1935. He asked the Premier to seek Mr Bruce recall and questioned possible price reductions and bankruptcy risk. Mr Stevens replied he believed Mr Bruce opposed export restriction and defended Australia’s interests in London.

Freighter Hokuman Maru Crew Rescued Near Cape Flattery

distress signals from the Japanese freighter Hokuman Maru with 35 crew aboard bound from Vancouver to Osaka. The vessel reported a starboard list and taking on water several hundred miles west of Cape Flattery. Kaiku Maru and USCG Chelan proceed. President Jackson later reported rescuing the crew as the freighter sank.
