Court reports show man jailed for malicious wounding request for longer sentence
In Canberra on August 25, 1971, George William Pendlebury, 24, of Enfield, pleaded guilty to malicious wounding. He asked the ACT Supreme Court for a longer prison term with no parole. Judge Blackburn declined, ruling a parole option could not be granted, and Pendlebury received a prison sentence. Pendlebury had claimed intoxication influenced his actions and suggested a longer sentence would aid rehabilitation. In Sydney, a separate case saw Malcolm Seatt, 34, sentenced to four months for falsely claiming a bomb on an international Qantas aircraft, after telling a ground crew at Mascot Airport there was a danger on board. The plane departed with delays and passengers evacuated.
