Commandant Cronin was found not guilty of sedition but guilty of unlawful association with the Young Ireland Association and the National Guard by military tribunals. A three month sentence was imposed but not enforced if he enters into recognisance of £50 to keep the peace for two years. Cronin said he would keep the peace and continue legal opposition to the administration while opposing any restraint on constitutional rights. In Random, Cork, the coroner condemned five armed men who dragged Fint O’Reilly from his home, beat him, and left him on the road. O’Reilly later died from internal injuries.
