The Guire Ding Show Committee shifts the annual show in Gunning from Friday and Saturday to Saturday and Sunday to entice more local residents to attend, despite resident annoyance and adherence to traditional routines.
The committee lost many regular entrants and contributors as dates changed. Walter Holgate, 83, born in Dutton near Gunning, notes members did not renew and key exhibitors, including a 30 to 40 person vegetable entry, stayed away. In a Saturday collision on the Kings Highway at Braidwood a father Gordon Nolan age 40 from Braidwood and his son Timothy age 4 died when their car struck a vehicle driven by Dr W Coombes of Gaulburn. Mrs Pamela Nolan 33 and son Peter 8 were injured. Mrs Nolan in stable condition and Peter referred to Canberra Hospital with a broken leg. Dr Coombes survived.
