Queen Mother Welcomed by Canberra Crowds on Royal Visit

The Queen Mother arrived in Canberra to a grand greeting as crowds lined the route from the airport to Civic Centre. She waved to families and onlookers who spread picnic scenes along the way while officials welcomed her with addresses and a Citizens Reception.

Two Men Sentenced in Theft From Princess Alexandra

In London two men received six months imprisonment for stealing jewellery a Bible a prayer book a Russian Tison and other belongings from Princess Alexandra age 21 cousin of Queen Elizabeth. The items were taken February 3 from two suitcases in an unlocked saloon car in a London street.

Queen Mother Hailed at Citizens Reception

A large crowd gathered as the Queen Mother arrived at Government House. New Australians cheered and sang God Save the Queen while a Ukrainian spectator expressed strong emotion. Junior Red Cross members, many children in white uniforms, lined the gates and waved as she departed.

Crowd surrounds Royal car in Queen Mother tour

A large crowd surged past police barriers as the Queen Mother’s Daimler neared Government House during yesterday’s reception. She stood and waved from the car while Chief Inspector Wells kept watch, noting Australians’ spontaneous welcomes. The Royal car moved slowly through the cheering crowd as the scene ended the first tour stage.

By Election Set for Parramatta Seat in House

The by election for the Liberal seat of Parramatta in the House of Representatives will be held on March 8. Speaker McCleng issued writs returnable on or before April 12.
