UK Premier urges talks agenda for summit with USSR

London report says Prime Minister Macmillan urged the Soviet Union to agree to a summit either via Foreign Ministers or through diplomatic channels. Quinane Retires as Canberry ALP Branch Secretary

Air, Fvquinlane retires from nine years as secretary of the Canberry branch of the Australian Labour Party at the branch AGM. He was not re-nominated for secretary but elected vice-president. Tributes were paid and he received an inscribed pen. 1958 59 officers named include President L F Crisp and Secretary T J McMahon.

Mines Cut Output At Broken Hill

Exclusion Was Childish Says Lady Lindsay

Hongkong Monday. Lord Lindsay his wife and three children were refused permission to cross the Chinese frontier en route to visit his ailing Chinese father. Permits had been issued then revoked without notice at the frontier. Lady Lindsay called the revocation a childish bluff that would not hurt her but would damage the Peking regime. The couple planned to study material from Communist and National China.

South Africa follow ons in Fourth Test at Johannesburg

South Africa trailed after being bowled for 303 and forced to follow on as Australia bowled steadily. Meckitt and Davidson opened with a brisk stand before lunch, while Tayfield's gritty 27 helped hold up the innings. Housing Rate For December Up Senator Claims

At an ACT Advisory Council meeting Mr W L Byrne raised worries about children drinking kerosene. Dr J Wienholt defended current labeling laws and promised more information at the next meeting.
