The Destroying Angel Toadstool Found Near Acton
A dangerous toadstool known as the Destroying Angel was located behind Canberra Community Hospital at Acton. Dr. C. T. Shepherd of the CSIRO found the specimen, shown in pictures with both early and fully developed forms. The mushroom features a large ring on the stem, a fleshy cup at the base, and a yellowish cap with white gills. even a quarter of it can be fatal.

Breakdown At Brickworks Delays Production Of Bricks
A mechanical failure at Canberra Brickworks cut brick output by about 96000 bricks yesterday. A bearing for the crushing machinery failed, immobilising the plant and stopping production. Repairs were expected by noon today with a replacement bearing arriving from Sodres. About 110 workers are on site and a 10 percent attendance bonus was discussed by union secretary Lo Fo Smith.
