Australia sees record capital inflow in December quarter
Overseas capital poured into Australia at a high rate in the December quarter with net capital inflow of 285 million dollars, following 299 million in 1967 and 109 million a year earlier. First half 1968-69 net inflow reached 446 million, total for the year 1,217 million, the highest on record. Australia’s gold and foreign exchange holdings stood at 1,150 million at December end, up 58 million year on year. Retail sales rose in December, with December 1968 total at 464.2 million, 4.4 percent above December 1967 after seasonal adjustment.

RAAF jet crash escapees parachute clear near Perth
An RAAF student pilot Cadet Rodney Heideman and instructor Flight Lieutenant William McAlister escaped a Macchi trainer as it crashed and burned near Wanneroo, north of Perth.
