Stormvogel Still Leads In Ocean Race

Stormvogel remains in front in the ocean race as of this afternoon, about 20 miles ahead of Freya and Balant Ondine. Canberra bicycle recovery sparks community appeals

Police recovered two bicycles linked to Brian McCormick at Northbourne Flats and the Admin Building. Mrs McCormick and others urged public help to replace the stolen bikes with donations, while Brian sought another bike for himself amid a charity appeal and club efforts.

Police charge two women in connection with the Elwood hostage case linked to robbers Ryan and Walker. Petrol prices to rise by a penny tomorrow in Canberra and Queanbeyan

The Service Stations Association in Canberra announced that standard and premium petrol will gain 4d a gallon tomorrow after wholesale price rises. Retail deliveries tomorrow morning will reflect the higher wholesale cost and be passed to customers as tanks run dry. Queanbeyan operators confirmed the same rise from Wednesday following NSW Prices Commissioner Newbigging’s earlier indication of a 1d rise in NSW outside Sydney, Newcastle, and Wollongong free delivery zones.

Soldiers charged with aiding the enemy in Okinawa

Two American Army sergeants George Smith of Chester West Virginia and Claude McClure of Chattanooga Tennessee freed at the Cambodian border on November 28 after capture on November 24 1963 were charged last Tuesday with aiding the enemy. Investigations continue to decide dismissal or court martial. The charges arise from alleged delivery of documents to the Vietcong.
