Helicopter Rescues Three From Pine Ridge Wreck Off Cape Hatteras

A helicopter from the USS Valley Forge plucked three men from the stern of the 10,417 ton tanker Pine Ridge after it broke in two in mountainous seas off Cape Hatteras. Coast Guard and Navy ships searched through gale conditions for the remaining crew of 39, with 25 still aboard the stern section. Norman Mailer Found Sane in New York Court

Novelist Norman Mailer was adjudged sane in New York Felony Court on a charge of stabbing his wife Adele Mailer on November 20. A psychiatrist’s report stating he was not psychotic was read into the record. A hearing was set for December 29.
