Penalty interest on rates studied in ACT
The Department of the Capital Territory is considering penalty interest on outstanding rates to spur payment by private and commercial ratepayers. Two officers studied systems used by Australian councils while a senior lands division officer, Mr R Corrigan, notified Liberal MLA Mr Cornwell in December. Former SA senator Steele Hall failed in Hawker as Jacobi led by 844 votes after final recounts. Jacobi 35700, Hall 34856 with Democrats giving Jacobi 3995 preferences. Hall declined a recount.
