Fitzroy Women Beaten To Death In Brunswick North

Mary Boanas 82 and her daughter Mrs Rowe 52 of Brunswick North Fitzroy were found murdered in their North Fitzroy home. Police believe the crime was committed by someone who knew the house and money hidden there. The murders occurred between 3 pm Friday and the finder’s visit. Investigators have not located the weapon, a blunt instrument likely. The victims had lived in Pe King prior to coming to Australia after the 1936 war, while their husband and sister remained abroad.

Duntroon Party In Road Smash

A Royal Military College handyman and a Canberra Army driver and his wife were injured when their car overturned on Warwick Road near Toowoomba. The driver Robert Notley aged 23 and his wife Barbara aged 20 escaped with shock. Raymond Oliphant 26, a bandsman at the Royal Military College, received a fractured left collar bone. Ambulance took them to Toowoomba General.

A Polish miner named Edward Basiorek, 34, died instantly in a rock fall at Adaminaby Dam. He was working in the Tumut Ponds tunnel when about 1 ton of rock collapsed on him at the dam settlement.

Big Fire Ravages Lake Cargelligo Grazing Lands

A grass and bush fire in the Lake Cargelligo area scorched about 40 000 acres of grazing land during the weekend. Losses exceed £50 000 with crops fences and 100 sheep destroyed. Burmese seamen drown after nightmare drift on rafts

The gunboat MGB103 sank off Southern Burma on November 29 during a storm while heading from Rangoon to Mergui. Twenty seven crew launched two rubber rafts. nine perished on the larger raft and several others jumped overboard or died of thirst. One officer reported a crewman went mad and another captain asked permission to die, with several men later rescued between December 7 and 11.

Three Minor Bridge Collisions Reported in ACT Weekend
