A blaze around Molonglo Gorge scorched about 220 hectares of bushland and pine forest and endangered 15 Ridgway homes near Queanbeyan. ACT and NSW fire crews, aided by a chartered helicopter, battled the hellish fire as it crossed rail lines and the Molonglo River. Peter Neilson, six, of Melba, drowned at Casuarina Sands on Saturday afternoon. He was found face down. Lifesavers and resuscitation efforts failed and he died at Woden Valley Hospital. Builder Marr Injured In Collapse At Canberra Brickworks
