Police and ambulance crews descending the Bealeton cliff area found two men on the rocks below. Walter Hall 23 a Arcadia Street Coogate resident died after a 100 foot fall. Robert Carroll 24 a Barrie engineer was found at the cliff base with concussion and injuries. Both men were taken to hospital.
Twenty three men are believed dead after a dust explosion in Marlan Fuel Company's mine shaft at Vanesy near Harlan Kentucky. Thirteen bodies have been recovered as rescuers work to reach victims trapped a mile and a half from the entrance. The mine was sealed after the blast.
