37 Points In Sharp Storm Over Canberra

A heat thunderstorm swept Canberra early last night dropping 37 points of rain with a strong west-north-westerly wind at 49 mph. Suburbs saw heavy downpours for 10 to 30 minutes, hail feared to break windows in Ainslie and O'Connor, gardens damaged by hail, and Turner Place in Yarralumla blacked out briefly. The Weather Bureau predicts occasional showers in the ACT today.
