No to Prices and Incomes Powers Referendum Results
With 84.43 percent of votes counted, 46.07 percent opposed the prices referendum and 65.549 percent opposed the incomes measure. State tallies show yes and no shares as percentages of formal votes.
Referendums Fail to Win Powers as Labor Faces Backlash
Labor ministers express disappointment at the double no in the prices and incomes referendums. Across Australia, every state voted against change, with only 4.9 percent support for the prices referendum and 34 percent for the incomes measure. The defeat blocks government powers over land prices and challenges tribunal authority, likely shifting blame to states and cooling early election prospects. Backbench dismay grows as ALP campaign is revealed as half hearted in many areas. Editorial on page 2.
