Mirage crash near Butterworth. pilot survives with sprained ankle

An RAAF Mirage crashed into the sea off Butterworth base during training. Flying Officer Brenton Crowhurst, 24, ejected and landed on a beach with a sprained ankle, taken to hospital. It was the seventh Mirage crash in 20 months, and the 24th since the type arrived in 1964, with nine pilots killed.

Wall paintings from 3500 BC found near Dead Sea

Archaeologists from the University of Sydney and the Jordanian Government Antiquities Department, reported by Agence France Presse, discovered black, white, yellow and red wall paintings dating to about 3500 BC near the Dead Sea. The depictions show men near an altar in a temple and are described as the oldest frescoes found in the region so far.
