An Australian soldier Private Francis John Fewquandie 23 of Mackay Queensland died of gunshot wounds in Phuoc Tuy Province Long Binh Hospital during Operation Forrest. Seven Vietcong killed and three wounded in two days of the operation now entering its second week.
A US spokesman retracted an initial claim that 300 villagers were killed by Vietcong guerrillas, calling it based on wild reports. A later report confirmed 20 killed and 30 wounded as the Vietcong overran the Dak Song hamlet, 130 miles northeast of Saigon, with officials noting corrections from CORDS in Phuoc Long province.
A fragmentary report notes the Brite sopcrete station on De wit island being fitted by helicopter after a weather delay seven miles from the coast. The Suva Antarctic Survey remains in London today with preparations ongoing.

Cape Town Tuesday report says Dr Christian Barnard plans another heart operation after a successful first transplant on Louis Washkansky. An ACT Electricity Authority spokesman said rising sales of electricity in the ACT will cut prices further, keeping ACT power the cheapest in mainland Australia.
