Freighter Ragna Ringdal Wreck Off Vatoa Island
The freighter Ragna Ringdal ran aground on Vatoa Reef near Vatoa Island on a voyage from the United States to Australia. Captain Sandorf estimated losses at more than £1,250,000 and reported possible recovery of timber cargo and deck fittings. Captain E Andresen and 21 crew members survived. Passenger Paul Goebner recalled Fijian girls performing a serenade on the reef as the ship listed dramatically.

Heart Transplant Plan Nears by Soviet Surgeon
Moscow reports Dr. Vladimir Demikhov, famed for multiple organ experiments, said he intends to perform a human heart transplant next year the first of its kind. He was asked about a three year old Danish girl Anita Heyslund-Jansen whose parents appeal via the Russian Embassy as she dies from severe heart wall thickening. Demikhov cited a monkey heart transplant on November 22 and declined further comment until details are available.

Fiji Airport expansion set for 1 125 000 pound funding
The South Pacific Air Transport Council approved spending 1 125 000 pounds sterling on Nandi Airport Fiji for next year. Australia New Zealand and Britain must ratify. Planned capital 24 000 pounds and maintenance 628 000 pounds with receipts 305 000 pounds. New housing and buildings 60 000 pounds. Cost sharing: New Zealand government funds 20 percent.
