Opening of National Jewish Memorial Centre in Canberra
Prime Minister McMahon to officially open the National Jewish Memorial Centre in Canberra on December 12 at 2 pm. The two storey memorial sits on five acres at Canberra Avenue and National Circuit, housing education facilities, a synagogue, auditorium, library and memorial for Australians who served. A ceremonial fire-raising will precede the dedication, with a plaque marking the occasion and a sculpture by a Canberra artist. The center and surrounding features were funded by community and government bodies, with additional donations from Israel and Australia. The event reflects ongoing community efforts and Christmas Remembrance Appeal targets for 1972.
