Judges no use in law reform
Sydney Monday reports that Victoria's Attorney General Mr Rylah told Commonwealth jurists at the Third Commonwealth and Empire Law Conference that judges are skilled in applying the law but not useful in law reform. He argued judges are too stone to concentrate on technical details. Lord Gardiner proposed biennial meetings of the justices to discuss reform, while D J Benjafield urged various methods including a full-time body. A Pakistani barrister dissociated himself from questions about punishing criminals with physical disfigurement.
