Dozens of Canberra teenagers on holiday were cut off by floods as Bungendore roads closed and the Queanbeyan River rose to a record height. Helicopters rescued two teenagers at Neruga and shift workers at Orroral Valley. more rain expected and emergency missions continued.

Mrs Rose Santangelo 38 of Liverpool and her 1 year old son Nicki Roy are believed drowned after floodwaters swept them from a bridge near Ingleburn while awaiting a tow for their stalled car. Police divers and rescue units searched the area until dusk and will resume at daybreak.

University staff evict students at Flinders University
More than 400 staff members stormed the Flinders University registry in Adelaide driving out students who had occupied the building for almost four weeks. The registrar H Buchan climbed in and removed the barricade while others entered amid cheers. Students fled as smoke bombs were used. About 70 students then occupied the staff club rooms after a campus meeting.

Petrol in ACT rises again for super and standard grades
