In Shanghai the day saw Japanese air squadrons bombarding Chinese defenses as 60,000 reinforcements surged in support of a new offensive against Hankow with river mining reported.
Rose Paul Royston 38 claimed her father was Count Orlowski and sought £225 plus £115 from William Lane, a Melbourne grazier, alleging an agreement from 1937. Lane denied coercion, saying Royston threatened to expose their liaison. matters were discussed with counsel and the hearing adjourned after an agreement was reached.

Sydney Wednesday union conference on the Commonwealth Aircraft Corporation Fishermans Bend works adjourned without a decision to extend the strike to other defence factories. A verdict was deferred until tomorrow as government and industry officials resume talks.
