Tribunal faulted markups on spare parts in Australia

Sydney reports the Prices Tribunal telling five major Australian manufacturers that markups on some spare parts are excessively high and must be reviewed. The final tribunal report covers Ford GMH Chrysler Leyland and Repea, noting markups up to 250 percent above manufacturing cost and urging reviews where factory cost exceeds sale price by 75 percent. It calls for scrutiny of imported parts sold by distributors and high auto store costs, while noting little evidence of widespread passing on discounts to consumers.
