Giant Flagpole Transported to Site for Canberra Erection
A 128 ft Douglas fir flagpole gifted by Canada and the timber industry is moved from Kingston to Regatta Point for erection. The three mile haul, aided by a crane and truck convoy, took two hours with few delays. The pole will be set in a 10 ft deep concrete pit with a stainless steel casing and winch drum, using temporary guys and no permanent supports.

Budget May Provide For T.V. In Canberra
The 1957 58 Budget is said to extend national television to Canberra Brisbane Adelaide and select NSW and Victoria country centres. Newcastle may be among the first NSW country centres to receive T V. Licences for commercial stations could be called by late October with hearings before year end and first reception in 18 months to two years. The Broadcasting Control Board backs two stations for the initial five years and would run hearings and advise the Government.
