Canberra street names move toward completion with explorers and statesmen likely to be honored. Aboriginal names will also be used. Sir John Dittera says the plan will be long and remains to be presented to an historical committee and Parliament before approval. He doubts living politicians will be named.
Frank Lydon of Russell Hill Canberra was fined £6 at the Queanbeyan Police Court for driving while intoxicated after a collision between a Hudson driven by William Shiels and a Whippet driven by Lydon on the Urorra Boad. Lydon, uninjured, was hospitalized briefly. Shiels sustained damage to his car. Lydon pleaded not guilty but was convicted and ordered to pay court costs and expenses.
Canberra meteorological records show rainfall for the period ending today with 4 points of rain noted compared to the same period last year. The report confirms rainfall amounts and weather measurements for the current period.
The Federal Capital Commission and the New South Government agreed to supply electric current to Canberra from Burrenjuck. The Goodradigble Shire Council plans reconditioning the York to Tumut road via Wee Jasper to form a Melbourne Canberra main route. The move follows a ratepayer petition highlighting Wee Jasper as a potential summer tourist resort and the road’s role in regional development and southward traffic.

Prizes of £25 £10 and £6 await the best three designs, which become the commission’s property. Entry deadline is Wednesday September 7. Designs must fit 5 to 12 inches square with color sketches and suitability for scale changes.
