Power shortage lifts costs for homes in ACT
Bruce Wright reports that the ACT Electricity Authority fails to connect power to residential leases before sale by the Department of the Capital Territory. Builders charge buyers 12 to 13 dollars a day for generator hire, adding roughly 5000 dollars to house costs on blocks without electricity. The department says it cannot delay sales until power is available, as leases turnover rapidly and many blocks remain unallocated. Buyers can check power status by visual inspection of blocks.
