Ward Ill- Jury Ends Trial as Doctor Fights Illness

The jury retired after lunch as Dr. Ward 50, an osteopath, was declared grievously ill after reportedly overdosing on drugs. Ward, charged with living on prostitution earnings, was found unconscious in a Chelsea flat two hours before his trial’s eighth day. A hospital statement said he showed signs of improvement. The Old Bailey heard Ward’s absence. the judge ordered the trial to continue in his absence with bribes withdrawn and warders supervising him. Ward’s status remained grave but hopeful as reports indicated possible recovery. Noel Howard Jones, advertising executive and defence witness, said Ward stayed with him since the trial began. A plain clothes officer remained at his bedside before duty changes.

Early milk deliveries adjusted for winter hours in June to September

Death of Mr. E. J. Ward

Sydney report says East Sydney member Eddie Ward died at St. Vincent's Hospital after a heart attack at 64. A longtime MP and former minister, he refused formal dress to a royal reception and was known as a persistent questioner and rebel. Survived by his widow and two sons. Continued on Page 6.

Model T Takes To Sea On 118 Month Global Run

A 1927 Model T completed a 14 000 mile land and sea voyage from Buenos Aires to New York. Three Argentinians spent 35 days crossing the sea with a wheelless car powered by a propeller. They began January 16 1962 and aimed to say hello to Mr Kennedy in Washington.
