Jews killed in Arab commando raid near Ismailia

A Arab commando unit attacked an Israeli position opposite Ismailia along the Timseh Causeway in the Suez Canal, killing and wounding at least 30 Israeli soldiers and destroying armoured cars and ammunition depots. Israeli tanks engaged, one tank reportedly destroyed, unit held position for two hours before returning to base with two wounded. BEIRUT reports note ongoing regional tensions.

Israeli military says an attempted penetration into an Israeli post facing Tsrmailia was foiled. A spokesman dismissed a CSIRO report claiming 25 Israeli casualties and a Teraell tank was damaged as fantasy.

Search for woman fails in Queanbeyan

Police and others searched unsuccessfully for Amelia Storey a 48 year old Queanbeyan mother missing since Friday. Bushland near the town and the Molonglo River were combed Canberra police joined the effort. Storey is 5ft 5in tall with brown eyes blonde hair and a fair complexion. She lives with her husband and has two grown children. The family offers no explanation for her disappearance. The search resumes this morning.

West Irian Protest Sparks West Irian Demonstration

In Disyapers the West Irian capital about 20 people staged a protest organized by separatist elements. The march, reported after Friday April 11, featured warning shots fired into the air over banners reading one man one vote. No injuries were reported.

Canberra attack on 15 year old in Acton

Canberra detectives probe an assault on a 15 year old girl on Liversidge Street Acton as she walked toward Canberra Hospital at about 7 40 pm. She suffers a fractured jaw and the attacker may have an injured hand leaving in a Holden sedan. Police seek a young woman seen nearby near the Institute of Anatomy building before the attack.

Australian shares for Robe River iron ore venture

Australian investors may be offered the chance to buy shares in the Roche River iron ore project.
