Memorial to Desert Corps unveiled in Canberra ceremony
About 600 veterans from across Australia, mostly over 70, gathered in Canberra for the unveiling of a Desert Mounted Corps memorial by Prime Minister Gorton. The 10 foot statue at Anzac Parade replicates the Port Said design and honors Australian Light Horse, New Zealand Mounted Rifles, Imperial Camel Corps, and Australian Flying Corps members who died in Palestine and Syria during World War I.
