New York police connected a major arms shipment to illicit activity after arrests showed the suspects planned to supply armed groups. Officials say the seized consignment included firearms and related matériel destined for illicit markets.
PORTSMOUTH Thursday. Chay Blyth in the ketch Great Britain II completed a 43 000 kilometre circumnavigation, finishing 237 days after setting sail with 17 other yachts. Blyth, 35, a former army sergeant, and his nine-man crew were greeted by cannon salutes and sirens on the quay.
National press notes that Prime Minister Whitlam will broadcast on Tuesday night to justify a double dissolution as part of a dense two week campaign build up before the May elections.
