Three British frigates Lasch Ruthven Loch Alvie and 6th Fyn aided a burning British cargo ship Dara of 5,030 tons abandoned in the Persian Gulf. About 500 survivors were reported en route to ports in Dubai and Bahrain. many Indians and Pakistanis aboard.
