Increased dog collection after public appeal announced

The Registrar of Dogs said more dogs were taken than usual due to a strong response to an appeal to report unwanted dogs this week. Some had to be collected during school hours because parents wanted their children kept away from home while pets were removed.

Agencies replace Saturday banking to extend hours in Canberra

Banks plan Saturday opening through new agencies in Civic Kingston Manuka and Queanbeyan while remaining closed on Saturdays. Existing branches will operate Friday nights and Saturday mornings with deposits and withdrawals. Oppy Gets His Bicycle Back From Theft

Hubert Sppernn known as Oppy former world champion cyclist had his bicycle stolen from a gardener's shed near Parliament House. Canberra detectives recovered the machine at Bungendore after a buyer paid £4. Oppy thanked police for the smart work and gave them a ride on the bike.

Mills Cross Radio Telescope Granted for Sydney Uni

The United States Science Foundation funds part of a 400000 pound project, with Sydney University Nuclear Research Foundation, to build the Mills Cross radio telescope. Dr B Mills, inventor, says it will probe the observable universe to near its limits and test theories of the universe's origin. Work on the two arms has begun with involvement from Radio Astronomy Centre and Electrical Engineering Division since 1960.

Nuclear men exchange talks between Australia and Indonesia

Australia and Indonesia may exchange students and teachers to aid atomic energy development. Professor G Siwabessa of Indonesia’s Atomic Energy Examination says the first stage could start next year during a two week Australian visit for talks with government, universities and CSIR officers. The plan would use the Colombo Plan and similar schemes.
