Djakarta Radio reported Waigeo Island near New Guinea is now under the full control of its people in patriotic resistance against the Dutch regime. A Dutch Affairs spokesman in The Hague denied the claim.
Propaganda from Djakarta Radio claims Dutch forces failed to push back Indonesian units in New Guinea. Dutch retreat left several casualties. Dutch Commander Rear Admiral Leen-Wert Reesner said Indonesian infiltrators had landed but retreated. West Java prisoners move and diplomacy with Kennedy and U Thant feature in a tense regional picture.
In Hobart on Sunday David John Sproule 19 of Lindisfarne was sentenced to death for murdering 57 year old invalid pensioner Llewel lyn Hope McChristie at Sandy Bay around October May 1961. Co defendant Anthony James Murray 17 of Pottery Point was convicted of manslaughter and remanded for sentence.

Sydney reports twelve fatalities from New South Wales road crashes over the weekend raising the annual toll to 196. A 26-year-old man, Peter Field of Ger Tingong, died when his car left the road near Bega. Earlier, two teenage girls, Margaret Cable of Neville and Winsome Scott of Barry, perished after their car struck a stationary lorry at Blayney.
CTC 7 general manager G Barlin said 12 hours of clear weather were needed to finish feeder cable work for test transmissions after 14 rain days. Eight technicians worked on the mast feeder cable yesterday. A north Canberra storm risked further delays and a start decision depended on final tests tonight. Viewers were advised to switch on at 6.45 pm. Intermittent test patterns were observed as tests by Broadcasting Control Board officials continued.
