Helping Britain's Fighting Men to Farm
Six hundred applications a month arrive in Britain from men and women leaving war service who seek farming. Since 1845 a training scheme has grown, with 4400 applicants by July, 2800 accepted, and a steady intake. Trainees work on farms under seasoned farmers, then study at institutes for supervisory or specialist roles. Women from the Women's Land Army mostly receive theoretical training, with allowances during study. Programs include Servite Agricultultural Schools abroad and instructor support, aiming to restore farming skills and, for some, emigration to the Dominions.

Church Wheat Storage Aims to Aid Europe in War Years
In early Mormon welfare drive lines, Utah Church members stored grain to help those with empty cupboards during famines. J L Wirthlin said the Church is ready to use its entire wheat supply to avert starvation in war torn Europe. The welfare plan expects a harvest of 70 000 to 80 000 bushels on Church land this season and will avoid open market purchases to maximize aid.

Plans for Super Line Postponed By U. S. Officials
Plans to build two fast Mediterranean liner ships for the South American trade were postponed by U S maritime officials as bids for the three vessels failed and the project faced withdrawal. President Truman’s administration and the Reconstruction Finance plans weighed, with officials citing shipbuilding costs and postwar needs in housing and civilian output. A postwar planning committee warned that passenger ship shortages remain the most serious issue for American shipping prospects despite a good outlook for overseas passenger travel.

City Undertaking Reforms Plan for Equal Death Rights
