Gyroscope Stabilisers Aim to End Ship Motion
The article describes attempts to develop a reliable ship stabiliser using a rapidly rotating gyroscope. It cites the U S S Henderson and an 11,800 ton vessel as examples where the system reduces roll by keeping the hull steady with minimal added weight. The device promises quieter operation, less wear, and improved passenger comfort, noting the gyro can be started or stopped quickly and improves stability under rough seas.
