Day two of the band carnival drew larger crowds with forenoon solo contests at the Palace Theatre and afternoon park sports amid glorious weather. Heat eased as evening breeze rose and collections at the gates surpassed expectations, with £430 raised and up to 3000 coins dropped during the sacred concert.
The opening solo competition at the Palace Theatre featured two contestants Messrs Lawson Habinda and H F Laidler Townsville. Laidler performed Tom Rowling and Lawson Rule Britannia with mixed critiques from adjudicator Mr Trussell who praised technique but urged greater sentiment and tempo control.
The meeting chaired by Mr W.S. Prewett heard from representatives of multiple bands across North Queensland. Talks covered a proposed North Queensland Band Association and the potential for a northern branch within the Queensland Band Association, with calls for cooperation and periodic contests.
